Shadow of the Moon
Piggy's Journal:
I gasp from a loud noise, I move from side to side wondering what is going on. feel for my glasses on the cool sand. I pick them up ad see Sam and Eric yelling, "Ralph! Ralph wake up!" Ralph tiredly wakes up and Sam an Eric yell out, "We saw the beastie, we saw it in the trees!" Ralph slowly gets up squatting and then rising as he tries to calm the boys down. I get up to see what is going on. I push my self up as the cool sand sinks from the pressure of my weight as i pull my self up. I walk over to Ralph. It is cool morning and the sun is still sleeping, but with all the commotion that we are making it rises fast to see what we are doing, for it cannot sleep no longer. Sam and Eric talk to Ralph some more to tell him what they saw, and Ralph decides to call a meeting. When I hear him call everyone, I just wanted to sleep some more, I mean really a meeting in the morning at the break of dawn. Uggggh. We all gather round, except the littluns, they are sleeping. Ralph says to us boys "We are having a hunt for the beast." " Sam and Eric have claimed to see the beast, and we are going to hunt it." "This beastie is no more." Jack looks at Ralph and then the other boys, he seems surprised of what Ralph just said. Jack smiles. Jack and his hunters together a long with Ralph and they scream "YEAH!" and they run off into the forest leaving me with the littleuns. I watch the boys run into the forest with the dust from the sand swings in the air and slowly disappears.
I turn my back to go back to the huts to sleep some more. I turn a whole hundred and thirty degrees around and AHHH! " You littluns scared me, I thought you were sleeping." They started to giggle and were off playing. I whimpered a little because of the early wakening. Now I have to watch the littluns till Ralph, Jack and his hunters get back. " Great." I sit in the cool sand with my legs crossed and my hands squeezing the sand till it all falls out like a sand storm. My eyes concentrate on the ice cold ocean water that is completely interminable, as the littluns roll around in the sand and make there sand castles. My eyes then fall onto the two boys running into the ocean water and dashing right out because of the cold temperature. The day rises and the sun is shining down on me as I walk along the beach thinking if what the hunters and Ralph are doing. Then I looked down at the floor of the damp used to be dried beach. I see my reflection from the little bits of water that lay ashore with the sun shining down on it. The gentle whispers of the ocean swaying back and forth washing over my dirty brown feet. i spin around walking back the way I came so that I don't wander to far from the littluns. I walk back and I get closer and closer to them and then before I know it I am sitting in the sand helping the littluns build there sand castles. I said to my self, it is quite mutinously that the littluns are silent. We messed around stomping on them and protecting them from the ocean waves trying to drag it into the see like a helpless shell tumbling around as the waters current pulls it back and forth. We were being so windy, fools just messing around.
The day goes by fast, all ready the sun getting ready for bed. My hands are pruned and my legs are sore from sitting. My cuts I had from a while ago burned from the brine, but I didn't noticed till slid my fingers against the cuts to get the sand off. I was impervious, but I just had to wipe the sand off and now my cuts hurt. I didn't show with expressions because I wanted to seem brave though my cuts were surrounded by redness. I tell the littluns, " Okay, littluns it is getting late and we need to stay together because when it is dark it is hard to see." " So stay together." It gets darker and darker. "littleuns, it is time to go to bed now, it is really dark out side and we need to get some sleep." I gather all the littluns and we all walk over to the huts where we will sleep. I hold a little boys hand who is about to fall asleep right by my side. We reach the huts and I set the little boy to sleep, and then walk around to every other little boy. I sit in the shelter feeling unprotected waiting for the hunters to come back. The moonlight shines down through the slits in the hut. The shadow of the moon lays across the ocean. The ocean sways and the wind whistles, as I watch the stars blink off and on. My eyes quiver and I struggle to keep them open, and with the stars gone and then all things around me disappear, it is truly a dark peaceful night.
