Book Review: The Diary of a Young Girl
By: Haileigh Smith
The story “The Diary of a Young Girl”, is about young girl named Anne Frank, Anne Frank is a young teenage girl that hides with her and another family the van Daans. Anne lives with her father Otto Frank, her mother Edith Frank, her sister Margaret, and the van Daans, Mr. and Mrs. van Daan, and their son Peter van Daan. They all have different personalities, giving it that twist in her diary entries about the two families.
The two families lived together in an attic in Otto Franks Business Building. The two families live in the attic hiding from the Nazis, because the Nazis are capturing the Jews. This story is based on The two families lives, ass Anne writes about what goes on, with a background of World War II when the Germans took over Amsterdam, and were putting all the Jews into concentration camps.
The diary talks about Anne Frank’s life in hiding. Anne Frank’s diary expresses much of her feelings, such as romance, truth, frustration, and hope. Before Anne had to go into hiding in the secret “annex” (attic), she lived at home, where she had her thirteenth birthday. For her thirteenth birthday she got many gifts, including the diary. Anne ended up calling her diary Kitty. In the diary Anne Frank truly pours her heart out into her diary Kitty, she tells her diary Kitty everything, her crushes, her feelings towards family, her frustrations, and days that go by. Before she had to hide in the secret “annex” (attic), she lived at home, where she had her thirteenth birthday. For her thirteenth birthday she got many gifts, including the diary. Anne ended up calling her diary Kitty. Every day is interesting, even though she lives inside an attic, something is always happening. Anne writes in her diary, because she writes of what she is missing, writing in her diary is all she has. She can’t go outside and play with kids, or friends. All she can do is watch and write about the days that happen outside the attic, and inside the attic. Though Anne used to live a normal life where she could go outside and play with her friends. She could enjoy every moment of it she could enjoy the warmth of the sun and the cool breeze of the air.
Anne Frank’s life has been turned into a book. Reading this book is reading years of Anne’s life squeezed into a diary, and you can experience it. “The Diary of a Young Girl”, is a book that takes you through the highs and lows of Anne’s life. Reading the book allows the reader to experience what life was like during the Holocaust Period of World War II and what it was like to be the one that was being hunted by some of the most inhumane people in society, all because of a religious affiliation.
In all I think this book is a great book, and would recommend this book to anyone who finds reading about things that have happened years ago, like an artifact. The book really gives you a perspective of what it was like during World War II. I have to say if you are into books like this one, then you should read this book. I would like to tell you more about Anne and her family, but I don’t want to ruin the book for you.

Chapter Thirteen
Chapter 13 Haileigh Smith
The Boys who Survived
The yelling goes down from when the boys were chasing Ralph, the boys all walk onto the ship. They all look around picking out blue cushioned seats on the ship. The seats were covered in a soft cushion, that when you sit down it had a n ice feeling on your bum, instead of sitting on hard rock. Ralph looks around the to find a bed found to the back of the ship. He climbed up onto the bunk and rests his head, trying to catch his breath from the dreadful chase. He lays there and is his heart pumps faster. Ralph's sits up on the bed, and looks out the window through the blue seas, that glitters from the suns reflection. The window which looks as if it was hooked up on to the wall like a picture frame. Ralph thought to himself while all the other boys were wondering around the ship.
Ralph says, “What if Piggy could come home? What if Simon?”
He stared out to the sea and wondered if he could ever come home to his family, or to nobody because of the war. Ralph rests his head on the bed and stares to the ceiling.
Eric says, “Sam look!”
Eric bounced on the bed and said “It's bouncy!”
Sam jumped on the bed and started laughing.
The Naval Officer said, “Everyone we are leaving the island now.”
Everyone ignored him and had their fun. Jack sat in a chair and looked relax, but he was frustrated.
Jack whispered under his breath, “I should of stayed at the island, I would've been chief. Now I am just plain Jack, no ruler, no nothing.”
Jack turns to Maurice and says, “Hey Maurice can we talk? I need someone to talk to , so I don't look like an idiot talking to myself.
Maurice says, “Sure.”
Jack says, “I feel so different, like stress has released from my soldiers. I feel more civilized I guess. I mean now that I think about, I feel like some savage.”
Maurice says, “Me too, well kind of.”
Jack says, “I like being leader though.”
Maurice says, “Hmmmm.”
Maurice smiles and looks toward to Sam n Eric jumping on the beds. Jack follows Maurice's eyes and his eyes lead to Sam n Eric.
Jack says, “Hey, lets go do what Sam n Eric are doing.”
They both get up and find a bed next to Sam n Eric and start to jump up and down.
Soon later after a long time of jumping the boys and all get tired and start to fall asleep, some play around with string on there chair or their long hair. They boys slept, and the officer patroled the boat, making sure everything is working fine and determined to get the kids homes safe. He walked into the room, all the boys are sleeping, some boys drooling on the soft cushiony pellows and some looking like they are having good dreams. The officer got back to leaving the boat to where he saw land. Soon after he hit land and went to the side of the boat and he and some of his men dropped the heavy anchor on to the bottom of the ocean floor. He walked into the room where the boys slept and started to wake the boy closest to the door and soon after they all arose to their dreams. The officer walked back onto the deck of the boat , you could hear the thump of him walking on the hallow floor.
Sam n Eric run to Ralph's bed and yell. “Ralph Ralph, wake up!”
To voices speak at once.
Sam n Eric say, “ Ralph we can go home now.”
The boys on the ship jump up and down waiting to get home to see their families.
Ralph wakes up from the loud screams of happiness, and they were home. The world I have been waiting to say for so long.
Ralph says, “Home.”
Ralph walks up to the hollow deck, the warmth of the sun shining on to him.
They all walk off the boat an finally yell out, “Home at last!”

Post #1: Lord Of The Flies
"Fatty" or "Piggy"
Piggy's Journal:
I met Ralph on the beach and we introduced ourselves to each other. I told him what the boys at school called me. I told him they used to call me "Piggy". He started to laugh, and yelled out Piggy! Piggy! I told him to stop and not to tell anyone. He stopped and it became silent.
We start to wonder after a while what ever happened to the other boys after the evacuation plane crash. I say that the plane must have crashed from being shot at so there must be a lot of other boys around on this island, so we wanted to find away to see. I looked around and saw a big creme colored shell in the ground. Ralph picks it up. It's a conch I say, we can use to call for the other boys. I told Ralph how to blow it. I told him my friend use to have one and he blew in it like spit kind of blow. Ralph tries and tries, and finally blows out a deep sound that echos through out the island jungle. Birds fly out of the trees from everywhere as the voice of the conch shell echoes. Ralph blows again and little boys start to appear out from the jungle.
The first to appear at the oldest was around twelve, and the others around six and five. I start to take names. As I am taking names from the children, A group of older boys dressed in black gowns walked down the beach in parallel line with one of the motif older boy stood out in the front looked like the leader. I turn tow colored, and I don't ask for the older boys name. The boys name is Jack he starts to taunt me with a nickname by calling me "fatty". Then Ralph yells out that my name it isn't "fatty", but is Piggy. All the boys start to snigger at me, and I can feel a suffusion of red on my face from the embarrassment. I thought I could trust Ralph, but I guess I was wrong.
After the embarrassing moment they started too choose a leader for all the groups of boys. Jacks choir votes for him, but all the other boys vote for Ralph. Ralph wins, though Jack wants the position. Now that they have picked a leader it is time for him and two others to explore the environment. I proffered to go with them, and whined to but, instead he calls up Jack and one of his choir boy. The three boys leave the beach to go explore the new land, while Piggy is stuck with the little ones. While he is watching them kids he decides to take more names, until the three boys come back.
